The result was that all the boys except Gandhiji were found to have spelt each word correctly. Only he had been stupid. One of the major problems we have to face is that of unemployment. It is a big problem, a human problem, which we cannot ignore. Yet in looking at it, it has to be remembered that merely giving some kind of occupation to large number of people does not ultimately increase employment or lessen unemployment. Employment comes from newer and more effective means of wealth production. Do not imagine that we can effectively deal with the problem of unemployment without the progress of technology. Every country which is proud of full employment today is a country which is technologically advanced. A country which is technologically not advanced has to face unemployment or underemployment. Therefore, if India is to advance, she must advance in science and technology. The fact is that our poverty is due to our backwardness in science and technology. If we remedy that backwardness, we create not only wealth but also employment.
