1. Read Carefully the passage given below and answer the questions that follow :
Demeter, the Goddess of flowers’ and plants, had a beautiful daughter named Persephone. One day Persephone was playing in the words with nymphs. Pluto drove past, riding his dark carriage pulled by four dark horses. Pluto fell in love with Persephone at Once and wanted to make her, his queen. He was strange and dark faced. No one would willingly agree to go with aim to his dark underworld kingdom where the sun never shone, the birds never sang and flowers and fruits would never grow. So Pluto decided to carry the lovely Persephone away by force. He jumped out of his carriage and running towards the nymphs, took Persephone in his arm and carried her away. The nymphos were afraid of the fierce god to save her.

A sailor was returning home after having been in prison for a long time in a foreign country. He was prisoned for a long time in a foreign country. He walked with light cheerful foot-steps for he was happy. He would soon be among his near and dear ones. Suddenly his attention was arrested by a man with a cage full of birds. Seeing the birds clamouring to be free, he was reminded of his own miserable life in prison, and his heart went out to the poor creatures. He could not bear to see them shut up in a case. As he had money in his pocket, he purchased the cage of birds and set the birds free one by One. The bird-seller was amazed. “Why have you done this?” He asked, ‘My friend. If you had been shut up in a prison as I had been you would have done exactly what I have done.” the seller said.
